1937 BMW 327 Convertible – Matching Numbers | Significant Pre-War Classic

Some cars are simply transport. Others are part of history.

This 1937 BMW 327 Convertible sits firmly in the latter — a rare and elegant example from one of BMW’s most celebrated pre-war eras.

Built on the 320 platform and styled with a beautifully streamlined convertible body, the 327 was designed as a luxury open-top grand tourer. Even by today’s standards, the proportions and detailing still feel special — low, flowing, and unmistakably classic.

This particular car is a matching numbers example, with the chassis, engine, gearbox and differential all aligned — something that’s becoming increasingly hard to find.

Restored to a high standard by Richardsons of Aubury, it’s finished in a traditional BMW blue and white colour scheme, paired with a white leather interior that suits the car perfectly. The engine and gearbox have both been rebuilt, and the car presents in excellent condition throughout.

To make it more usable in modern conditions, braking and steering have been upgraded, carefully done without compromising the integrity of the car. Importantly, the original components are included with the sale.

Supporting its provenance, BMW Group Archives confirm delivery on August 10th, 1939, originally supplied via BMW dealer Koch, finished in black with a red interior.

The car has been held in long-term ownership for over 20 years, later forming part of a significant private collection, and is now being offered from the estate.

Opportunities to acquire a 327 Convertible — particularly one with this level of provenance and condition — are few and far between, especially in Australia.

A true collector’s piece, and a standout example of early BMW design and engineering.

Available now at Benzina Stables.
